Rengaya, North Sydney

Rengaya
73 Miller St
North Sydney 2060
Tel: 9929 6169
 website: www.yakiniku.com.au

After telling my mum about  our Suminoya visit she's always been nudging me to take her there. But since I just went there not long ago and I've been saying I wanted to try Rengaya since yr11 i took my mum to Rengaya instead ( my shout). We went on Saturday and it was a really bad day to go coz THERE WERE NO TRAINS TO NORTH SYDNEY!!! We had to train it to Wynyard then bus it to North Sydney andd during the bus ride i banged my knee against the chairs and now I've got this massive bruise 3cm in diameter (yes i measured it)....but anyways back to Rengaya LOL

My mum and I were like "wooooooooow" when we wealked in. The decor was really nice and they had a really nice ambience going. The place was pretty high class (from a uni student's perspective) but there wasn't that restrained atmosphere you get with some palces. We felt really comfortable and at ease there and the staff were really friendly and helpful ^^

Chili cod roe and potato salad $9.90

This was really nice but I'm not sure where the cod roe was...I'm assuming it was mixed in with the potato. It wasn't chili at all but I sitll liked it. Even my mum who HAAAAAAAATES salads thought this was nice hehhehe

Wagyu Short Rib (premium) $39.80

Premium Prok Neck $13.90

Chicken $9.80

Assorted BBQ vegetables $9.90

We wanted a balanced mixture of meat and veggies so we ordered 1 beef, 1 pork, 1 chicken and 1 veggie + salad. We considered ordering another Wagyu beef since we were here mainly for the Wagyu but the waitress was really nice and said that what we ordered already should be enough for two people. The meat dishes are served with your choice of either salt and pepper or BBQ sauce.

The Wagyu beef was soooooo soft and soooooo tendy and sooooo oily LOL it was really nice and I'm glad we only ordered one plate coz it's really heavy and we would have gotten sick of it if we'd ordered two plates. Next time i think i'd llike to try one of the less marbled varieties to compare the difference. This one was all marble and no meat and I like my meat a bit more meaty hehehhe

After all that yakiniku-ing we were provided with a dessert menu which actually had a decent selection of desserts! I picked the Wa (or wafu...same thing~) Plate. It consisted of a greentea creme brulee (yummy!!), azuki shiruko (too sweet @.@) and some jelly like thing (i'm not too sure what it was but i liked ie =]) and also a small cup of tea.
Unlike Suminoya which uses charcoal grills, Rengaya used a gas grill so there was almost no smoke so we didn't leave smelling of cooked flesh ^^

Wa plate $17.90

The meal was very very yummy but also very very expensive. I don't think I'll be shouting my mum another meal any time soon LOL

Beard Papa, Chatswood

Beard Papa
K353A Chatswood Westfield
1 Anderson St
Chatswood 2067

Prompted by G's post where she mentioned she forgot to take pics of Beard Papa, I decided to post the pics I took earlier this year. The pics were taken inside the cinemas so sorry for the bad quality (sorry for ALWAYS taking crappy pics! ><)

Cream puffs are a type of Japanese sweets, known to some as Choux Cream. Beardd Papa is a world wide chain store specialising in cream puffs, currently with two stores in Sydney (Chatswood and Macquarie).

individual puff (vanilla)

innards shot

box of six

The puffs are warm and fresh and are crispy on the outside but very light. The cream is suggary heaven ^^ It's cool and smooth and you'll be sure to have a hard time keeping your fingers clean as more of it oozes out with every bite you take.

Wagaya, Haymarket

Wagaya
Level 1
78 Harbour St
Haymarket 2000
(only open for dinner)

This modern establishment has quickly become one of the most popular and crowded restaurants in the city since opening earlier this year. Bookings are almost always needed to a get table here and for good reason. Take a look at their decor!

Their famous touch screen ordering system =]

Bad with pronouncing food names? NOT A PROB!
Bad with waiters? NOT A PROB!
Just plain shy? NOT A PROB!
hehehhehe you order everything yourself viz the touch screen panel and if in doubt you can call someone over via the touch screen system too!

Menu

Menu
Their menu is great too with coloured pics of the food on offer so you're sure to know what exactly it is you're ordering. Their menu also has little signs saying *popular* and *recommended* and is a great help for those who find it hard to dedcide.

I've been to Wagaya a few times so here's a selection of the food pics taken. Most of these were from last Friday when our Japanese class had a reunion with our high school Japanese Teahcer. We stuffed ourselves silly coz we'd ordered so much and there was EVEN MORE FOOD coz some dishes were accidentally ordered twice ( the only bad thing about the touchscreen odering system). I can't remember all the names for all the dishes so I apologise for any mistakes.

Seafood hotpot for one

Another hotpot for one

The hotpot was really fun as you've got a mini gas stove which looks really cool! The hotpot ingredients were average but they were reasonable considering the price (i think it was in the low $10 range)

Wafu pizza

The wafu (Japanese style) pizza was very nice. The rice cakes were crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and somehow went really well with the pizza base.

Potato salad

Sushi

Assortment of sushi and sashimi (large size)

hehehhe this was really fresh and yummy but unfortunately the Loudpeaker and I struggled to finish it as it came out last and we'd already filled our tummies with other yummy food. We had a hard time trying to convince other members of our party to help us polish this off.

Raw prawns...

Even our Japanese teacher (who IS Japanese) was unsure about this. I tried this but ended up spitting it out (the small detached bit). It was sort of sweet but at the same time had a very fish odour and it just felt wrong in my mouth....

Tsunami

Rainbow roll

eel rice soupy thing

look at the steam!!

Mentaiko spaghetti

This is one of the recommended/popular dishes and I too, vouch for this dish! The sauce is very nice but I would have liked the dish to be a bit warmer.

I have yet to try the sushi roulette (there's a plate of salmon sushi where under one of them there is a enough wasabi to make the toughest bloke's eyes water) but be sure that I will be back sometime to try it.

Yakiniku grill

YAY! Finally there's another *K.G* entry!!! hehehhee it's been aaages since K & G have seen each other and unfortunately this is the last time (this year) aswell coz G will be going to HK for a few months. This dinner was originally supposed to be a gathering of all our high school friends (there's about 13 of us) but sigh* now that we're all in uni everyone's busy with work, uni friends or they're just too pov to spend $50 on food. After long and worried discussions of what we were gonna do we (coz only 4/13 could go) were finally able to gather more poeple who were willing to go. Our finally party consisted of 11 people, only 4 of which were actually from the priginal party! Despite all this I (K) had a fun time =]=]=]

We must apologise for the lack of photos despite such a large meal (We had the premium buffest $49.00 pp). We were too busy eating and talking that we neglected our duty *blushes* So here's the limited food pics we remembered to take hehehhe

Beef toungue

Beef tongue grilling

The beef tongue was a bit overseasoned for my liking but it was still very nice and i think it was one of the most ordered dishes at our table.

seaweed salad

Hhahahaha truth be told, I found all the salads similar tasting but it was great having some veggies to give us a break from all this meat!

From the top going clockwise: prawns, corn with butter, some form of beef, some form of beef, mushrooms and in the centre we got chicken

We went all out in our first ordering session but the portions were quite small so it wasn't long before we were waving a waiter over to clear the dirty dishes and bombarding him with another massive order.

More food grilling

Yukke

Hehehhehe i'm (K) not really a fan of raw meat. Nor am I a fan of raw egg. I didn't try this dish but everyone who tried it agreed it was quite good...maybe i'll give it a go next time aye? I DID try a slice of beef sashimi this time (sorry, we forgot to take a pic!) and it was quite nice despite the horrid perception I had of it LOL

The food eating cocming to a stop....

And now it's time for desserts! YAY! My most favourite meal!! We ordered over 30 servings of dessert and it took an AAAAAAGE for them to come out. Alot of our party (K especially) were very impatient and it was such a relief when our desserts came out safe and sound hehehehhe

coffee jelly

coffee jelly again

There were alot of poor opinions of the coofee jelly on our table and I got really scared to try it when it finally came out...I found it very bitter and probably more suited to a person with more mature tastebuds (hehhehe i'm still childish and don't drink coffee) In the end I finished it off by having it with two vanilla icecreams.

My lemon sorbet, vanilla icecream and greentea icecream

The lemon sorbet got mixed responses, the most memorable being that it resembled melting icypoles, but I quite liked it although it melted a tad too quickly. In total I (K) had six servings of dessert alone causing severe brain and heart freeze epiosdes!
